Apply for a primary or secondary school place

If you live in Gateshead, you can apply online for your child's school place from 9 September 2024.

To apply for a school place, you will need to create an account if you haven’t used the system before. If you are an existing user and have a password, you can sign in to make a new application.  Sign in or create account to start your child's application. 

Applications must be submitted by the closing date:

Secondary Applications (year 7 from September 2025) - closing date 31 October 2024

Primary Applications (reception class from September 2025) - closing date 15 January 2025

If you live in Gateshead you can also use this system to apply for a place in a junior school (year 3 from September 2025), middle school or high school in one of our neighbouring Local Authorities.

You must read the primary / secondary school information booklet and relevant information on the Council's website before you apply.  

If you do not live in Gateshead, you can not apply using this system.  Please apply via your Home Local Authority (the authority to which you pay Council Tax).

Check eligibility for free early education & childcare for 2 year olds 

You will need to create an account if you haven’t used the system before. If you are an existing user and have a password, you can log in to check your child's eligibility online.

The eligibility check is based on economic criteria and you will need your Date of Birth, National Insurance (NI) or NASS  number to complete the check.
