Service description:Downs Syndrome North East is the leading organisation for the help and support of all people with Down's Syndrome and their families and friends.
Covering Northumberland, Tyneside, Wearside, Durham and Teesside, DSNE is a registered charity run entirely by parent volunteers offering parents advice and help on educational, health and social matters related to their child, including problems associated with allowances, benefits and special needs provision.
Support groups for parents and carers are provided in various locations throughout the North East. Groups meet monthly. DSNE endeavours to provide contact with other parents of children with Down's Syndrome and vital assistance for new parents.
If you would like to get in touch with a family in your area or with a child of a similar age to your own, then please contact Downs Syndrome North East and they will try to help to arrange this.
They are involved in the promotion of fund-raising activities, events and organising meetings with a variety of topics and speakers.
Regular newsletters are published with information, news, and ideas on all matters related to Down's Syndrome. These can be viewed online.
Down's Syndrome North East has two bouncy castles and two parachutes which members can borrow for a donation. Members can also borrow a range of books, videos and DVDs from the DSNE library.
