Service description:
This service is commissioned by Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group and provides FREE, bespoke, confidential, community outreach counselling services to support carers in Gateshead. Carers are matched with the most appropriate counsellor/therapist to suit their needs.
Counselling is not about advice or telling others what to do. A counsellor will help someone clarify their feelings and issues and help them move forward in a way that’s right for them. All NECS counsellors are professionally qualified members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and are CRB checked.
Counselling can be provided in the NECS counselling rooms in Gateshead Town Centre or a variety of outreach venues across Gateshead.
Common issues regularly identified with carers include:
• Stress and anxiety
• Depression
• Bereavement
• Anticipatory grief
• Isolation
• Low self esteem
• Physical exertion
