Service description:
There are two types of bursary that may be available for students aged 16-19 years studying at college.

1. Guaranteed Bursary – students are only considered for the guaranteed bursary if they are:
- in receipt of income support
OR
- in receipt of BOTH Employment and Support Allowance AND Disability Living Allowance
OR
- have been in or currently are in the care of the Local Authority

This bursary is worth £1200 for the academic year for students attending a full time, full year course. If the student is attending a part time or short course, the bursary will be reduced.

2. Discretionary Bursary – awards are means tested (household income is taken into account) and are subject to funds being available. This bursary is worth a maximum of £600 for the academic year for students attending a full time, full year course, which is reduced if the student is attending a short or part time course.

If you, your partner or parent(s)/carer(s) receive one of the following you are eligible to apply:
- income based jobseekers allowance
- income related employment and support allowance
- housing or council tax benefit
- guaranteed pension credit
- income support

For those not on benefits, household income will apply and applications need to state why students need financial support. Financial support may be available to help with travel costs, course fees and core costs allowance such as resources, stationary, food at college etc. Bursary application forms can be requested by phone or email.
