Service description:
Barnardo’s provide a range of services for families of children with SEN and/or disabilities.

Barnado's Special Educational Needs & Disability Information & Advice Service provides support to parents/carers that have either requested an assessment for a Statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN) for their child themselves or someone else has requested it. The service also provides support to parents/carers whose child is at School Action or School Action Plus and support can be provided by Independent Parental Supporters (IPS). Help and advice is available on SEN systems and processes, SEN provision in schools, the statutory assessment process, statements, Education, Health and Care Plans, annual reviews, transitions, transport, specialist support services, appeals to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST), disagreement resolution services and the SEN code of practice.

The service supports parents/carers by attending meetings such as reviews, visits to schools and other settings, liaising with schools, the Local Authority and other agencies, help with writing letters, explaining the content of reports and Independent Education Plans and signposting to other sources of support.

Barnardo’s also run a Young People’s Forum for disabled children and young people aged 8-14 who look at issues that are important to them and provide advice to services about how they can better involve young disabled people. They also facilitate Splash activity sessions for the Jewish community and out of school activities. They deliver short break services which families and young people can purchase directly from them.
