| Service description: | SOFA is a Social Enterprise, established in 2009 based at Cedars Academy in Gateshead.
SOFA provides opportunities for young people aged 16+ with learning difficulties or a disability to progress through vocational applications and business enterprises, offering valuable work placements, training pathways, advocacy arrangements, support and social networks opportunities.
SOFA provides:
• learners with opportunities for supported work experience placements, training, enterprise initiatives and programmes that develop their employability skills and raise aspirations
• routes to enable learners with learning difficulties or a disability to progress to further vocational programmes, supported employment and beyond into adulthood
• social opportunities for Gateshead’s young adults and a network café where people can meet in a safe environment
• opportunities for personal development, advice, information and advocacy for young people with learning difficulties or a disability
• support and guidance to other disability groups, training providers and employers, and training and disability awareness to voluntary organisations
