Service description: | Disabled Students’ Allowances are paid on top of other student finance and do not need to be repaid.
How much a student gets depends on their individual needs, not household income. For part-time students, the ‘course intensity’ can affect how much financial support they receive. Students can get help with the costs of:
• specialist equipment, like computer software • non-medical helpers, like a note-taker or reader • extra travel costs they need to pay because of their disability • other costs such as photocopying
DSAs don’t cover disability-related costs they’d have if they weren’t attending a course, or costs that any student would have.
